David Volkmer is considered one of Austria's most promising guitarists. In 2021, he was the first Austrian in over twenty years to win the prestigious Forum Gitarre Wien competition and has since received numerous awards at international competitions, including in Gorizia, Bratislava, Benicassim, Veria, Rome, Rust and Cervignano.
He completed his master's degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Adriano Del Sal and supplemented his training with a course in music physiology at the mdw.
Together with cellist Maike Clemens, he forms the award-winning duo David e Mia, which has performed at renowned venues such as the Wiener Konzerthaus and Musikverein Wien. The duo combines chamber music precision with innovative concert formats. Their programme COU:RAGE – The Art of Motion, consisting of contemporary works, expands the classical concert framework, among other things as a staged performance; the accompanying album is expected to be released in spring 2026.
In addition to his concert activities, David Volkmer teaches guitar at the Linz Music School, integrating his expertise in music physiology. He has received artistic inspiration from masterclasses with internationally renowned guitarists such as Manuel Barrueco, Roland Dyens, Łukasz Kuropaczewski, Pepe Romero, Aniello Desiderio and Marcin Dylla.
